Scope
Whilst this functionality provides additional optional capabilities that enhance the user’s experience these do not capture the requirements for a Minimal Viable Product. The functionality for the Minimal Viable Product for this system include:
- Fashion Recognition
- Direct Shopping URLS
- User-Friendly Interfacing
- Scalability and Evolution
Quality Attributes
Based on both the MVP and the idea of the software these would be the most applicable quality attributes.
- Security: This fundamental attribute ensures confidentiality, integrity, and availability of user data as well as protecting the system against malicious attacks.
- Maintainability: The ease in which the system software can be modified to correct defects, improve performance or adapt to an unexpected environment.
- Scalability: The system’s capability to handle a growing amount of users.
- Availability: The degree of which a system is operational and accessible for use.
Importance and Justification
- Security: In an online platform dealing with personal user data and potentially sensitive information, security is not optional. Protecting against unauthorised access, data breaches, and other cyber threats is essential to maintaining user trust and compliance with data protection regulations.
- Maintainability: The fast-paced nature of the fashion industry and technology means that StyleSeeker must quickly adapt to changing trends, user feedback, and new features. High maintainability ensures that the system can evolve over-time with minimal effort and cost.
- Scalability: As this would be a global platform with varying demands over a 24-hour period, the platform must efficiently manage increased loads without degrading in performance. High maintainability ensures that the system can evolve over time with minimal effort and cost.
- Availability: For an e-commerce-oriented platform like StyleSeeker, availability directly impacts revenue and user satisfaction. High availability ensures that users can access the service whenever they need it, which is crucial for maintaining and growing the user base.
Measuring Criteria
- Security: May be measured through regular penetration testing, automated security scans, and utilising secure programming practices. Metrics such as; the number of vulnerabilities and time to remediate, may be retrieved for quantitative data for analysis.
- Maintainability: May be measured through developer surveys and the frequency of code changes.
- Scalability: May be measured through load and stress testing to observe how the system performs under varying loads. Metrics such as; throughput and response time under load are direct indicators of scalability.
- Availability: May be measured through system monitoring, tracking uptime percentages, and mean time to recover from outages.
Evaluation
From identifying the quality attributes and how they may be measured in general, this can be applied to this specific project to determine if this project has achieved these attributes.
- Security: It is not feasible for this course to utilise automated security scans but it would be possible to conduct periodic penetration tests to identify vulnerabilities.
- Maintainability: Perform load testing by simulating increasing numbers of users and data volume to assess the system’s response and identify bottlenecks. Monitor resource utilisation under different load scenarios.
- Scalability:
- Load Testing: Simulate both expected and peak user traffic using load testing tools to measure how the system performs under different levels of demand.
- Stress testing: Determine the system’s breaking point by gradually increasing the load until the system fails. This will identify the maximum capacity of the system.
- Availability: Implement a monitoring system to track uptime and detect downtimes. Simulate failure scenarios to test redundancy and failover mechanisms.
