SafeAway - Peace of Mind for Families with Kids Abroad

Abstract

A mobile-first software called SafeAway will be created to help families who have loved one studing or residing overseas feel less anxious. It gives family members a chance to stay informed without sacrificing privacy or independence, and it gives students and easy method to check in on a frequent basis. Fundamentally, the system provides dependable check-ins safety updates and emergency notifications from reputable international alert providers. Because they are essential to guranteering that the system operates as a trustworthy safety net across time zones and countries, the project focuses on the quality of availability, security and reliabilty. SafeAway seeks to provide peace of mind rather than digital surveillance by being scalable, secure, and lightweight.

Functionality

The following functionalities will be available on the complete SafeAway platform

1. Scheduled and Manual check-ins via the student app.
2. An emergency alert system (the [“I’m not okay”] button) that sends out notifications to trusted contacts via emails, SMS, or app notifications.
3. Safety warnings at the national level that are retrieved via public safety or travel APIs.
4. Trusted Circle.
5. Priovacy Controls: intended to preserve autonomy, no real-time tracking specifically enabled.
